Comments:

On the 25th August 1942, the Amakura(2) was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-588 (Krech), in the Atlantic E of Port Morant, Jamaica, in position 17.46N 75.52W while on a voyage from Liverpool to Demerara British Guiana via Key West 18.8.42 and Trinidad, with 2260 tons of general cargo, a straggler from convoy TAW 15 comprising 29 ships. The Master, Captain Thomas Orford, 25 crew and 5 gunners landed at Point Morant Light house, Jamaica, but 13 of her crew were lost. More details of the Amakura can be found on the War Years page.
